Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekitou, released to Comiket in 2007, is a 3D fighter that features characters from the Haruhi Suzumiya universe, as well as a pair from Lucky Star, and is a followup to their earlier release Suzumiya Haruhi no Chourantou.

[edit] Game Overview

Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekitou is a fighting game fought in 3D arena. The camera starts behind the player but can be freely rotated around. Battles in the game can consist of up to six characters split between two separate teams, and victory is decided when one side has lost all their active members.

All characters have a basic attack relevant to their design for close range melee combos that can be used on the ground or in the air. Everyone can also jump and dash as needed. Every character also has access to special techniques that hit harder but consume SOS energy. Regular specials use a little energy and the effect differs depending on whether it is used in the air, dashing or on the ground. More powerful specials can be unleashed at the cost of 50% max SOS energy and the effect depends on the user's form.

Items play important roles in battles. Before entering a game mode players can equip accessories to boost abilities such as increased running speed or HP regeneration. Accessories are split into three categories and only one from each can be equipped at any given time. These accessories must be unlocked through the Mission Mode first though.

Battlefields are littered with items that can be used too. Bats, spiked maces, megaphones and so on can all be picked up and used to cause damage. Some items are used to restore health or gain SOS energy. Special orbs also appear that allow a character to temporarily change into their cosplay form, granting a large SOS energy boost and changing their ultimate special.

The SOS gauge is basically the energy meter that determines how much a character can use their special talents. Regular normal attacks or picking up certain special items fills the gauge. Using any specials will deplete it.

1) Character Portrait

Shows the character currently being controlled by the player.

2) Performance Modifier

Any modifier such as increased attack shows as an icon here when active.

3) SOS Gauge

Displays the amount of SOS energy built up that is used for special attacks.

4) Health Gauge

Displays the amount of health remaining. When depleted this character is no longer able to fight.

5) Team 1 Status

Displays the participating members and status of team 1. The player is not displayed here.

6) Team 2 Status

Displays the participating members and status of team 2.

7) Enemy Indicator

Displays above characters that are on the opposing team.

Note that these are the default keyboard commands. Controls can be customised and can be mapped to a controller.

Arrow Keys - Move around the arena.
Z - Melee attack/pick up item/use item.
X - Hold to jump, tap to dash.
C - Drop item/Block.
V - Use special
Z+V - Use ultimate special
A or S - Rotate the camera
