[edit] Introduction

Mio is a main character from the visual novel ONE. She is a mute character who carries around a sketchbook so she can more easily express herself. Her fighting style and excessive use of costumes is a reference to her role in the drama club. Note that Mio has two distinct fighting styles based on short and long range styles. The gauge below her health bar shows which style she is in currently - blue text is short range and red text is long range.

[edit] Command List - Short Range Mode

[edit] Basic Weak Attacks

A(also possible from dash)

Quick sideway swipe with her book. Decent fast A attack to link into basic combos. Slight delay when done from a dash after the first hit.

A (crouching)

Low angled book swipe. Usual crounching basic combo starter.

A (midair)

A kick angled upwards. Poor range and angle makes this hard to use.

[edit] Basic Mid Attacks

B (close)(also possible from dash)

Swings her book in an upward motion. Good close B move to combo further. Doesn't have much speed or range to be useful out of a dash though.

B (far)

An overhead swing of the book. Decent range and power.

B (crouching)

She throws her book a short distance that spins before returning. It's a multi hit attack but take care not to cancel out of it too early. Problem with this attack is that it can easily be blocked as it does not hit low.

B (midair)

Her book is swung down. Much better than A for approaching ground targets but the range can still be iffy.

662B

A low kick. The range isn't that impressive but unlike her normal 2B it hits low. Use for the odd suprise.

[edit] Basic Strong Attacks

C

Mio leans back and then thrusts her book forward. Decent power and range and can easily link into specials.

C (crouching)

Mio does a little slide kick that causes knockdown. Despite it looking like it is aimed upwards it does actually hit low. Range isn't good though.

6C

Mio switches to a fighter's costume and does a punch. Not too different from her normal C aside from being slighty slower on startup.

C (midair)

Spins her book below her for a multi hit attack. A good approach move but no use in the air.

2C (midair)

Mio dives downward at a 45 degree angle. If she catches the target they are sent skyward in a fiery explosion. Be careful as the hitbox on this is deceptive and not as big as it seems.

66C

A quick knockdown kick. Though the range o f the kick itself isn't great it is fast and thus timing it to come out of a dash at the optimal moment can take opponents by surprise.

662C

Mio slides along the ground to cause knockdown. Slightly more ranged variation of her normal 2C, but you can't combo into it. Still, might catch out targets used to your more usual dashing attacks.

[edit] Throws

6C (close, ground)

Jumps onto the opponents back and hits them multiple times before dropping them to the floor.

6C (close, air)

Grabs the target and bashes them away with a bowl of food. Not as powerful as most aerial throws though.

[edit] Other

44 or 66 (ground)

Forward dash covers about 3/4 of the screen. Back dash is a quick jump that covers about 1/2 a screen. Both are quite fast.

44 or 66 (midair)

Mio can air dash once and will cancel out any remaining jumps before landing. Covers about 3/4 of the screen in either direction.

[edit] Special Attacks

S

Changes Mio to long range mode.

236 + A,B or C

A or B version

Mio switches to an Indiana Jones style outfit and lashes out with a whip. Following either up with 236A will pull the target closer to Mio for further attacks or 236B will push them away to let Mio space herself. Good for messing with opponent's spacing.

C version

Mio switches to an Indiana Jones style outfit and lashes out with a whip. Uses RF gauge. Special followup is not possible here but this causes wall bounce, allowing for more traditional followups.

623 + A,B or C

Mio spins around and goes straight up. It's unlikely you'll hit a ground target with this unless they are walled in so best used as Mio's antiair attack. A version goes 1/2 up. B version goes one screen up. C version goes over a screen height up and uses RF energy for more damage.

214 + A,B or C

Mio dresses up as red riding hood and dashes forward swinging knives in a circular motion for multi hit attacks. The distance covered by the attack depends on the button pressed (A - 1/3 screen, B - 3/4 screen, C - whole sscreen). Note though that these attack work best at close range or the power will be severely reduced. C version uses RF gauge but the extra power is worth it.

[edit] Eternity Specials

236236 + A, B or C(ground)(Requires 1-3 bars of SP power)

Mio pulls a cord, which causes various objects to fall from the sky around her. If the opponent is touching Mio at the string pull then they are frozen during the attack. A version uses 1 SP bar, B version uses 2 SP bars and C version uses 3 SP bars. More objects fall with each level increase. This is a very poor attack though due to low power, easy to avoid and easy to interrupt.

214214 + A,B or C (Requires 1-3 bars of SP power)

A or B version

Mio unleashes a barrage of energy strikes in front of her that hits multiple timems and forces the target away. A version uses 1 SP bar and B version uses 2 SP bars. However, B version is only margainly stronger than A so the extra SP is not worth it. Be careful, as the range of this move is shorter than it looks.

C version

Uses 3 SP bars. Mio does a short ranged explosion that freezes the target for a moment. THe power is only slightly higher than the B version but the opponent is left wide open for a moment. Only useful if you are capable of quickly launching into a followup combo to tack on further damage.

[edit] Final Memory

641236C (Requires 3 SP bars and 1/3 health remaining)

Mio dashes towards the target for a hit. Though nothing by itself this can be followed up with an insane special combo. The big problem is that the timing can be horrible and missing one input ruins it all and can potentially make the move inferior to her ES attacks.

>> ABCABCS

Each button press need to be done just as the previous attack is hitting. Mistime it and the whole attack finishes. Mio's attacks are, in order: Smacks the target with her book, smashes her book down on the target, changes into a blue cloak and swings a stick in front of her, changes to a sailor schoolgirl outfit and does a low kick, changes to a fighter's outfit and does another kick, changes to red riding hood outfit and does her spinning knives attack and finally slams her hand into the target's chest. A final followup is possible from this from ONE of the following.

>>> 236C

Shoots a beam at the opponent.

>>> 623C

Hits with an uppercut and then a swift kick.

[edit] Command List - Long Range Mode

[edit] Basic Weak Attacks

A (close)

Quick sideway swipe with her book. Decent fast A attack to link into basic combos.

A (far)(also possible from dash)

Mio throws her book out attached to a string. Slower than the close attack but the range lets her use it as a poke.

A (close)(crouching)

Low angled book swipe. Usual crounching basic combo starter.

A (far)(crouching)

Mio throws her book out attached to a string angled low. Again this is slower than her close 2B but better range.

A (midair)

Throws the book on a string out down at a 45 degree angle. Good for approaching good targets.

[edit] Basic Mid Attacks

B (also possible from dash)

Mio throws her book out and slightly up. Strong version of her far A move.

B (crouching)

Throws her book forward at a seemingly low angle. Alas this move doesn't actually hit low so it's easy to block.

4B

Throws her book at a high angle ahead of her. Mainly used as an anti air quick poke.

B (midair)

Fire the book at a slightly upward angle. Good for anti air.

2B (midair)

Fire the book at a slightly downward angle. Similar to her A midair but more range.

[edit] Basic Strong Attacks

C (also possible from dash)

Mio swings her book out. Its range is just under 1/2 screen, making it an ideal move to use in a combo.

C (crouching)

Mio spins the book above her head for a multi hit knockdown strike. Although it does not hit low it does help as an antiair.

C (midair)

Throws her book out straight ahead of her. Like B this is a good move to take on other aerial opponents.

2C (midair)

Throws her book almost straight down. Only useful if you're right above the enemy.

Mio can air dash twice and will cancel out any remaining jumps before landing. Covers about 1/2 of the screen in either direction. The dashes are like helicopter spins that send her across and up.

[edit] Special Attacks

S

Changes Mio to short range mode.

S (midair)

Causes Mio to rise in the air for a few moments. Mianly used to delay landing to avoid attacks. Can be cancelled by pressing 2 or air dashing. Note that Mio can still use any remaining jumps and dashes when this move finishes.

236 + A,B or C

A version

Mio fires a single arrow straight ahead. Quick so it's handy in combos or to maintain distance.

B version

Mio fires two arrows straight ahead. Slight startup delay so useful to keep the opponent guesssing and for more damage.

C version

Mio fires a single arrow in the opposite direction, which then comes back from the other side of the screen. Designed to trick the opponent due to the hit delay. However, it uses RF energy and has about the same power as A version.

214 + A,B or C

Mio throws three items to the ground in front of her, which subsequently fire three electrified beams straight up. The distance Mio throws the objects depends on the button pressed - A is 1/3 screen away, B is 1/2 screen away and C is 2/3 screen away. It's useful for catching out opponents trying to make an approach, even when in the air. The stun caused by the attack also allows for easy followup strikes.

412 + A,B or C

Mio changes to a blue cloak and unleashes a fire storm ahead of her. Damage increases with each version, with C using the RF gauge. Can also be used in the air.

[edit] Eternity Specials

236236 + A, B or C(Requires 1-3 bars of SP power)

Mio pulls out an ice rod and fires a large blast of ice at the target. Although this technically hits across the whole screen it loses power the further away you are. A version uses 1 SP bar, B version uses 2 SP bars and C version uses 3 SP bars. B version isn't worth the extra SP power but there is a good gap between A and C. This move can also be used in the air.

214214 + A,B or C (Requires 1-3 bars of SP power)

Mio unleashes a barrage of swords at an upward angle. A version uses 1 SP bar, B version uses 2 SP bars and C version uses 3 SP bars. As the version increase the number of sword groups and thus damage increases. The angle means it's only useful for hitting aerial targets but the power and speed is impressive.

[edit] Final Memory

BA2AB (Requires 3 SP bars and 1/3 health remaining)

Mio does a quick short ranged hit with her book. If it connects then the opponent is knocked down and Mio calls upon the others from ONE to perform an impromptu play on top of the opponent, before finishing with an explosion. Not as powerful as the full version of her short ranged FM but far, far easier to land. Might be better just to use her ES moves though.

[edit] Strategies

Mixup

Should go without saying, but Mio's greatest strength is the ability to adapt. Lay the pressure on with short range and keep away with long range. The best tactic is to switch between them so that the enemy has little chance to second guess your actions. It offers great variety but obviously means you need to remember two different command lists.
